Basic Scone Recipe (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 250g all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting.
02 - 100g granulated sugar.
03 - 1/2 teaspoon salt.
04 - 2.5 teaspoons baking powder.
05 - 113g frozen unsalted butter.
06 - 120ml heavy cream, plus 2 tablespoons for brushing.
07 - 1 large egg.
08 - 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract.
09 - 1-1.5 cups mix-ins (optional).
10 - Coarse sugar for topping (optional).

# Instructions:

01 - Whisk flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl until combined.
02 - Grate frozen butter using a box grater. Mix into flour mixture until it forms pea-sized crumbs.
03 - Mix cream, egg, and vanilla in a separate bowl. Pour over flour mixture with any add-ins.
04 - Form dough into a ball with floured hands. Press into 8-inch disc and cut into 8 wedges.
05 - Brush with cream and sprinkle with sugar. Refrigerate 15 minutes.
06 - Heat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
07 - Place chilled scones 2-3 inches apart on baking sheet.
08 - Bake 18-26 minutes until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.

01 - Can be frozen before or after baking.
