01 -
In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat and add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté with a little salt and pepper for 5 minutes or until the vegetables start to soften.

                02 -
Add the ground beef to the skillet and break it into small pieces while browning. Drain excess fat if needed.

                03 -
Once the beef is browned, add tomato paste, tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder and stir everything together.

                04 -
Let the sloppy joe sauce simmer for about 10 minutes to thicken and allow flavors to blend.

                05 -
While the sauce simmers, bake Texas toast at 425°F for 6-8 minutes or until lightly toasted. Then use the back of a spoon to make a slight depression in the center of each piece.

                06 -
Evenly distribute the sloppy joe filling into the center of each piece of Texas toast. Top with shredded cheddar cheese.

                07 -
Return the assembled Texas toast sloppy joes to the oven for about 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

                08 -
Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
