Crispy Bite-Sized Onion Bites (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1/2 bag frozen pearl onions
02 - 1 cup flour
03 - 2 teaspoons paprika
04 - 1 teaspoon salt
05 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
06 - 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
07 - 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
08 - 1 egg
09 - oil in a spray bottle

# Instructions:

01 - Microwave the frozen pearl onions for half the time given on the package (approximately 2 minutes). Alternatively, you can thaw the frozen onions in a bowl of cold water for an hour.
02 - While the onions cook, add the egg to a medium bowl and beat it well. In another bowl, combine the flour, paprika, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and garlic powder and stir to mix thoroughly.
03 - Drain the partially cooked onions in a colander and pat them dry with a paper towel. This helps the coating adhere better.
04 - Working with 6-8 onions at a time, first dip them into the flour mixture and stir to coat. Use a fork to lift them out of the flour, shaking off any excess. Then place them in the egg mixture and stir to coat. Use a different fork to take them out of the egg, letting any excess drip off. Finally, return them to the flour mixture for a second coating.
05 - Place all the coated onions on a tray and refrigerate for 10 minutes. This crucial step helps the coating stick better during cooking.
06 - Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 minutes.
07 - Take the coated onions out of the fridge and arrange them in the air fryer basket in a single layer, making sure they don't touch. Spray them lightly with oil. Air fry at 380°F for 3 minutes.
08 - Shake the basket to reposition the onions, spray them with a bit more oil, and air fry for another 3 minutes until golden and crispy.

# Notes:

01 - When coating the onions, use a fork to transfer them between bowls and work with only 6-8 at a time to prevent the coating from getting too messy.
02 - Don't skip the 10-minute chilling time as the coating will stick better when briefly chilled.
03 - Don't use commercial cooking spray in your air fryer as it can damage the nonstick finish on the basket. Instead, use a refillable spray bottle filled with your preferred cooking oil.
04 - For an oven version, bake the prepared onions at 400°F (204°C) for 15-20 minutes until crispy.
