Classic French Bread Recipe (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Dough

01 - 2¼ cups warm water (110-115°F)
02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 1 tablespoon instant or active dry yeast
04 - 2¼ teaspoons salt
05 - 2 tablespoons oil (olive, canola, vegetable, or avocado)
06 - 5½ - 6 cups all-purpose or bread flour

# Instructions:

01 - Mix water, sugar and yeast in stand mixer bowl. If using active dry yeast, let foam 3-5 minutes.
02 - Add salt, oil, and 3 cups flour. Gradually add remaining flour until dough clears bowl sides. Knead 2-3 minutes until smooth.
03 - Either let rest 10 minutes and stir down 6 times, or let rise once until doubled (about 1 hour).
04 - Divide dough in half. Shape each into 9x13 rectangle, roll up, seal edges. Place on parchment-lined sheets. Cut diagonal slashes on top.
05 - Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
06 - Bake at 375°F for 25-30 minutes until golden. Optional: add ice cubes to oven for crispy crust.

01 - Can use whole wheat flour for half the flour amount
02 - Check oven manual before using ice cube method
03 - Can be made by hand without mixer
