Frequently Asked Questions

→ Can I use canned peaches?

Yes, you can use well-drained canned peaches when fresh aren't available. Use the syrup from the can in place of peach nectar if needed.

→ Why does the frosting set so quickly?

The brown sugar caramel frosting contains melted sugar which hardens as it cools. Pour it evenly on the first try since spreading after it starts setting will crack the surface.

→ Can I make this ahead?

Yes, you can make this cake a day ahead. Store it covered at room temperature or in the refrigerator. The frosting will become firmer when chilled.

→ What if I can't find peach nectar?

You can substitute with peach juice, apricot nectar, or even apple juice. In a pinch, you can use water but you'll lose some peach flavor.

→ Why add food coloring?

The orange food coloring is optional and just enhances the peachy color of the cake. The cake will taste just as good without it.
